Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say preliminary tests show the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; officials are currently not cognizant of any harm in association with the incident," they added.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the public for information.
A senior political figure said the vandalism made him speechless and had to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of migrant background in five years prior.
